What is virtual patching?

A virtual patch is basically a rule (or a bunch of rules) that mitigates a specific vulnerability in software without changing the vulnerable code itself.

Patchstack can ship virtual patches to all the websites automatically if a vulnerable plugin or theme is present.

Virtual patching is important for your sites because:

1. Helps reduce risk before the developer releases a fix (sometimes never);
2. Lessens risk for conflicts and false positives;
3. Receive protection for all sites almost immediately after a vulnerability is discovered;
4. Reduces time and money spent on malware clean-ups.
